Founded in 1989, the Bodegas Garcigrande Winery is built on top of old wine cellars dating back to the 14th century located right in the heart of Spain’s Rueda region, famous for the excellence of its white wines.

The Denominación de Origen (Officially Certified Winegrowing Region):

This Denominación de Origen was officially created in 1980. Prior to its official certification, the region’s winegrowers had been striving for years to have their native grape variety " Verdejo" officially recognised and protected and for the recognition of their region as one that is especially suited for the production of white wines of the highest quality.

With its continental climate, the Rueda region rises between 700 and 800 metres above sea level, and its flat yet high-lying terrain has long cold winters and extremely hot dry summers, all of which forces the vines to send their roots deep down into the subsoil in search of water. On the other hand, the marked differences in temperature between day and night give rise to a balance between sweetness and acidity, difficult to achieve in other regions with different climates and it is this that gives Rueda’s wines their distinctive characteristics. Lastly, its soils – rich in calcium and magnesium, stony and well aired and drained – result in the typical “gravelly” soils on which the finest vineyards of the Rueda region are sited.

The winery:

The climate and the soil of our vineyards fully represent the typical characteristics of the region, thereby guaranteeing that Bodegas Garci Grande produces its wines using a raw material that epitomises everything unique about Rueda and gives our products the personality and complexity which distinguish the wines produced by our winery.

Our vineyards: Bodegas Garci Grande currently has 120 hectares controlled under long standing agreements with many of the region’s winegrowers, that enable us to play a hands-on role in the grape ripening and selection processes and thereby guarantee maximum quality year after year.

Grape varieties:

  • Verdejo, the variety native to the region and which marks its distinctive character.
  • Viura, used to provide extra lightness and a touch of acidity to those of our wines based on the Verdejo grape variety.
  • Sauvignon Blanc, originally from the Loire Valley in France, this is an early ripening variety which adds a floral bouquet and aromas of tropical fruits to our wines.
  • Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, for our red wines.
