90 points priced at 10US$/bottle in "Wine Advocate" magazine -#169, February of 2007- for a young wine from Ribera de Duero.
“Viña Gormaz 2005", from Viñedos y Bodegas Gormaz, pinpoints Soria in the World’s map of best quality –priced wines
In the last number of Robert Parker´s magazine “The Wine Advocate”, Jay Miller, professional taster in charge of Spain, grants Viña Gormaz Joven 2005 90 points out of 100 thus including it among the most notable QPRs in Spain. It is the only young unoaked wine of Ribera de Duero within the 90-100 range of points. Wines between 90-100 points are considered as “outstanding” by Robert Parker himself, as he explains in his website, www.erobertparker.com
“Here then is a general guide to interpreting the numerical ratings:
90-100 is equivalent to an A and is given only for an outstanding or special effort. Wines in this category are the very best produced of their type. There is a big difference between a 90 and 99, but both are top marks. As you will note through the text, there are few wines that actually make it into this top category because there are not many great wines.”
And Jay Miller´s tasting notes as follows:
“The 2005 Vina Gormaz Tempranillo, produced from 50+-year-old ungrafted Tempranillo vines, is as good a value as exists from the D.O. of Ribera del Duero. This unoaked wine is dark ruby-colored with aromas of earth, spice, mineral, plum, and black currants. This is followed by a medium-bodied, ripe wine, with layered flavors, light tannin, and good balance. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. Buy this one by the case!” |
